Who we are
Planning Summer School is an independent educational charity which runs entirely on monies generated from the Schools.

It is run by a committee of thirty Members each of whom serves for a three year period.

Almost everyone involved with the school is an unpaid volunteer. None of the organisers, speakers or workshop leaders receive fees.

Each Summer School is booked into the university in question about five years in advance of the event. Detailed planning for each School begins at least eighteen months before the School actually starts.

Planning Summer School is divided into three schools of which there are two types ...

The Elected Members' School provides educational opportunities for local authority councillors engaged in the work of planning committees. This enables them to discuss the planning problems and achievements of their colleagues in other parts of the country. The Elected Members' School is only open to elected representatives.

The Planners' Schools are mainly for professional planners in local or central government, consultancies or academic institutions. Elected members with planning committee experience may also find them of interest. The Schools incorporate an international dimension and delegates from overseas are encouraged to attend.

The educational and professional training basis of the Planners' School and the value for money that it represents has long been recognised by local authorities and others concerned with authorising attendance.
