On Tuesday 4 September as part of Planning Summer School PS1, this workshop was ably led by Rhian Brimble and Andrew Matheson (both RTPI) it included interactive use of the RTPI web site - www.rtpi.org.uk
The RTPI views planning as spatial, sustainable, integrative, inclusive, value-driven and action-oriented. Internationally, nationally, at regional level and through a wide range of networks the RTPI is:
• Promoting research and knowledge relevant to spatial planning:
• Guiding the professional education of spatial planners;
• Providing quality-assured qualifications for through RTPI membership;
• Supporting spatial planners in undertaking lifelong learning;
• Working with governments and communities to improve policy and practice;
• Working with communities to improve access to information and services.
Services and initiatives include:
• Planners in the workplace (includes a 24 hour employment law help line);
• Membership services (including Mentoring and the post 2006 Assessment of Professional Competence - APC);
• Learning Partnerships (launched early 2007);
• RTPI Policy (including good practice guidance plus research and knowledge);
• RTPI Networks (including work with other professions);
• RTPI Nations and Regions (eg. Scotland, Wales and the English Regions); and
• Planning Aid (about 38,000 people and 745 communities helped to date).
Other publications include the weekly Planning magazine plus the quarterly Planning Theory & Practice. The RTPI library and information service can also provide a wide range of information related to spatial planning.
