Everyone remembers their first time.......at Summer School

On Tuesday 4th September 85 slightly nervous delegates shuffled quietly into the Faraday lecture theatre.
They were unsure at first whether they really wanted to admit to being first timers.
Alistair Hackston and Rachael Bust warmly welcomed delegates and gave a Hitch Hikers Guide to the Summer School about what they could expect and how to get the most out of the experience. Summer School President, Mike Holmes made a guest appearance.
A few snippets about the history of the Summer School set the scene about the role and purpose, with a "who's who" of Summer School members and the Event support team.
The format and programme of the Summer School was described to help first time delegates understand the different types of sessions and what to expect. Vital information about where to find the food, drink and assistance if necessary helped the first timers feel at ease and those with bottomless stomachs comforted in the knowledge that they would not starve!
At the end of the session those nervous and quiet first timers left the theatre with smiles on their faces and more relaxed about what the next few days had in store for them.
The whole Summer School experience obviously offered the chance to learn and share knowledge but also through meeting new people from the UK and beyond, make new friends, maybe future partners or job opportunities. All of which have happened at Summer School!
